Moon jar in almond ash glaze

Hand coiled and built on a kick wheel using the onggi method I learned in Korea, this moon jar interpretation brings together elements from my time in Icheon as well as new material studies from the Sierra Nevada range. Kaolin slips are brushed on the piece with overlapping strokes to create a depth in the white layer, which seen through the slightly moss-green tone of the ash glaze takes on a lovely variety of hues.

The finish is made using a simple combination of washed wood ash (ecologically sourced from a local baker) and minerals, namely wild kaolins and ground feldspar. A nice movement to the ash in one area makes a dramatic statement, dynamic and eternally still at the same time.

Watertight, ideal for wet or dry flower arrangements, or as a stand-alone piece.
