The French poet Jacques Roubaud rendered the Japanese concept ofmono no aware as “le sentiment des choses”. Following Hisamatsu Sen’ichi, he sees in it the “harmony between the spirit and the form of things”.
The gallery is articulated around this harmony and feeling, in its various expressions. Beyond the wistfulness, the melancholy feeling attached to impermanence, mono no awareis also admiration and joy in front of beauty, art and creation; it thus abides in the tension between impermanence and eternity.
The gallery is about resonance, dialogue, connections: between antique and contemporary, permanence and transience, East and West, humility and refinement, unique art pieces and daily ware.
It is a joint creation with artists, visitors, collectors, anonymous craftsmen from centuries past; it is about creation, transmission and sharing. It focuses particularly on Japanese art, crafts and antiques, and on ceramics, antique and contemporary, for which we have a passion.
Paper, ink, wood and stone have also pride of place. We value traces, texture, the simplicity of wabi and the humility of mingei.
